More than (three) words
In three words: wisdom tooth op.
In three pieces:

***
Start.
Dentist (looking at the X-ray film): "Wow, yours is going to be a difficult one. It's at such a ridiculous angle, I'm going to have to take a lot of the bone away."
Me: "???"
Dentist: "Actually, I don't like doing surgeries on weekends, because if anything happens..."
He shook his head.
Me: "Just how was that supposed to help?"
Dentist: "Yeah, sometimes the truth hurts."
Me: "..."
***
Middle.
Dentist (to Nurse): "This drill is too small. Can you get me the bigger one?"
Me (blindfolded): *cries*
***
End.
Dentist: "It's out! It's finally out!"
Nurse (laughing): "You make it sound like she just gave birth!"
Dentist (laughing): "It's a boy! It's a boy!"
Me (not laughing): "..."
***
End. Part Deux.
Dentist (examining the tooth after stitching me up): "Um..."
Me (sitting up): "What? Is something wrong?"
Dentist: "There seems to be a missing root."
Me (gasping): "What is that supposed to mean?!"
Dentist: "We're going back in."
Me: "!!!"
***
So yes, twice opened up, twice stitched back. Got my money's worth there.
Funnies aside (and it wasn't meant to be funny, really; I have eight pills to pop thrice daily, and I've already taken more than the prescribed dose; well, they're Painkillers, and I have a lot of pain to kill), this was an absolutely ghastly weekend. I've had to say goodbye to two people -- one I've loved almost all my life, and another that I'd grown to love; I've cried more over their departure than I have from the tooth extraction. Truth is, I would go through another surgery (and I've been POUNDING on the table from the pain, mind you) if it meant that I could have them stay with me.

Aren't you the brave one being awake with the wisdom tooth oral surgery. Yikes! I was asleep when they did mine. I couldn't stand to know what was going on!
Hope you get feeling better soon!
For a lifetime of relative peace and comfort, a short period of unavoidable and intense pain may well be worth it. - D W
I had 2 of my wisdom teeth out last thanksgiving. They put me under for it because they had to cut into and break my wisdom teeth into peices. I get the other 2 out this friday =/
Enjoy the medication while it lasts...because it doesn't last long enough.
Hope you feel better soon!

I really hate dentists!
eeeks.. not funny at all...
get well soon... it's yucky eating porridge for 5 days in a row..
I know its not supposed to be a laughing matter, but that account was really funny.:)
any more wisdom teeth to go? i can give you the number of my very nice dentist. no joke. i know someone who went to her to have all four pulled out in one session and the person was eating solid food the very next day. i had one taken out and it's the same - was munching on solids that very evening itself.
janna: Most people I know are awake during their surgery. I suppose GA is less traumatising, but it has its own set of risks too. But thanks, I'm recovering well! :)
D W: Well, considering that there was already intense pain BEFORE the op, I didn't really have a choice lah... :p
Ramit: I'm generally fine with dentists... as long as they don't come anywhere near me with their nasty drill! ;)
Woof!: It's only been a day and I'm sick of porridge already! I found an alternative though: baby food! You know, those in teeny glass jars? Yeah, but they don't taste good at all. :(
ABoY: Extraction or surgery?! I could eat after my extraction for the top two wisdom teeth lah. Thanks for the rec, but this (THANKFULLY!) was the last wisdom tooth to go. :) I'd put it off for... um, two or three years. Guess I was hoping it would just disappear on its own. :(
So that was the reason for the toothache? How come no need to schedule one? Or this was the 2nd visit already? He did take out a lot of bone though... That dentist was careless/cmi lah... Sew up already then check for roots (not professional at all)... You shld've asked for partial refund... But then again mebbe he was too mesmerized/distracted by the vivacious cow!
y'know, "vivacious cow" just sounds... wrong. =)
but i hope you'll get better soon LC! i had one of my wisdom teeth out 1) with dentist using mighty forceps to pull out root after he cut into my gum ('cos tooth was embedded) 2) there was a girl in next cubicle to me (in the old days at govt hospitals somehow we didn't have that much privacy) was whimpering throughout her entire operation.
one other wisdom toof was pulled out another time using same method (no whimpering girl though) and the other extracted relatively painlessly.
a l: Yah, I also have no idea what he means by that. :S
Hah, I don't think I whimpered, but I'm sure I groaned a couple of times at the wisecracks. Hur hur. Extraction is significantly better than surgery, especially in terms of recovery! But hopefully no more of either for me!
Vandice: Yeah, the diagnosis was passed on Friday, I got the X-ray done on Saturday afternoon, and surgery later in the evening. Actually dentist was quite nice lah, and the root was really quite small. X-ray only showed two roots leh, but dunno why have three, so it's not really his fault lah. ;) That tiny root that broke off is the small piece you see in the photo!
My mom insists that he's the best; I just wanted to get the tooth out. ;) But everything did go smoothly and recovery is right on track, so I suppose that's good enough!
