Need
Rocky does this thing from time to time, where he accidentally gets one of his front paws caught in his collar, in the midst of scratching himself. When this happens, he lets out a chilling yelp, which finds me running scrambling at full speed to rectify the problem.
And even though I'd never publicly admit this, in some perverse way, I actually like rescuing him. I wonder if that speaks of some complex that I have, or if we all just have some unexplainable need to be depended on. "I want you to need me, like the air you breathe. I want you to feel me, in everything," so sang Celine Dion.
Yet, at the same time, there is some part of me that wants to be rescued too. Not so much that I want to be in any sort of pain, but rescued in a way that I never knew I could be rescued. To be whisked away, swept off my feet; to be given something I never even knew was missing, but once had, could never again do without.

As a man, I can safely say we love "rescuing" women.. it makes us feel needed and important and that we can make a difference.. care to mount my white steed, damsel?
Not that I wouldn't mind being resuced by a lass once in a while myself..
... And yet there's something very empowering about rejecting the rescue. Must be some girl power thing. :p
girls...
:o)
