What kids are reading these days II
Remember Humpty?
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the kings' horses and all the kings' men
Couldn't put Humpty together again.
Apparently there's a little-known second verse:
Scrambled or omelette was the choice.
"I love the taste," yelled somebody's voice.
"His death was not kind," cried one of the men,
"But I'd shove that egg all over again."
Hur hur.

it's little wonder that they grow up funny. :)
Eh, actually you know Humpty Dumpty is a very dark nursery rhyme leh. It sounds seemingly light-hearted, but the humpty dumpty falling down and and not being put together is actually a really dark thing all together. Speaks of death and destruction.
Aiya, maybe I'm just reading in too much to the nursery rhyme. I mean, it's a nursery rhyme, it should be taken in a flippant manner, but there's a thing about nursery rhymes that just says "DARKNESS!"
you know, the rockaby baby on the tree top nursery rhyme. The wind blew, the cradle rocked, then dropped. And then the baby inside most likely died.
BoY: Is that funny ha-ha, or funny weird?! :p
Raymond: I guess the same people who would find Humpty "dark" would by that same definition find Tom and Jerry being flattened by a steamroller gory; all a matter of perspective. :) I think, for me, nursery rhymes (and Tom and Jerry for that matter) don't purport to be realistic; it's more phonetics, rather than narrative. :) P.S. Maybe it was a really short tree... :p
I love that second verse. I'll be sure to tell that to my children next time. Hahaha.
Yow. That'd make for an interesting childhood. :p
