Monday munchies

The Economist has just informed me that my subscription is due to expire in February. Part of me wants to fill up the form like I've habitually done every year or two for quite some time now; the other part of me is dissatisfied at the oftentimes biased commentaries, and worried that I won't have the time to read anyway -- as it is, I read an average of three articles per issue these days.

So this is where you come in, dear reader (and you must know how much this means to me because I would surely not otherwise address you as such): is there a more worthy publication that deserves my subscription? Which one(s), and why? Or should I channel this money towards acquiring a new pair of shoes? :)

***

Me (needing something to keep me awake during lecture): "Do you have any sweets for me to munch on?"

Z (holding out her arm self-sacrificially): "I have blood sugar if you want."

Me: "..."

Frankly, all newspapers (yes, The Economist is one, though I am sure you knew that already) reflect a certain bias, but I have found TIME and Newsweek far worse in that aspect. The Economist provides as good and objective a summary of everything around the world as one can possibly find on the newstand; the only other worthy publication I can think of off the top of my head would be the National Geographic. But that's the nature geek in me speaking, and your persuasions may well lie with COSMO, CLEO or FEMALE. ;-)

As far as objectivity is concerned, I agree that The Economist is by leaps and bounds ahead of Newsweek and Times. It's actually a better read, in my opinion, it's just that I don't really like econs stuff. heh. I rather just take articles on a slightly more surface level. that's why I still like time. And Time has really great writers.

O2: Ha. Ha. (My dad is actually subscribed to Cleo and Female, only because the family is in the cosmetics business. So you see, I have no choice but to read them. Poor me.)

Mr Moron: They made us subscribe to TIME when I was in JC, for our reading hour or something. I hated it. I always hid a book behind the magazine and copied answers (we had to answer questions from the mag!) from friends later. ;)

budak: Yeah, that's precisely what I'm talking about, the liberal bias that I feel has gotten more pronounced recently. Just makes me feel quite sian when it comes in week after week. I'll check out Prospect; thanks for the recommendation! :)

(So everyone is for the new shoes? Good, I thought so.)

BoY: You have no shame and no self-control! :p
